Its counterpart is arachidic acid, which is a saturated fatty acid. Most animals, including humans, are virtually unable to synthesize arachidonic acid, meaning they must ingest it in their diet. Dietary sources of arachidonic acid are virtually always meat, as this ingredient is not often found in plants. arachidonic acid is an essential fatty acid.
